Dr. Laszlo Mechtler is the neurologist who has been appearing on national television in conjunction with The LeRoy Twelve. He is the expert who has “successfully ruled out” Gardasil and PANDAS as causal factors in the girls’ sudden onset of tic disorder.
As this article reports, Dr. Mechtler has resolutely stood by his diagnosis of Conversion Disorder, despite the very loud (and very appropriate) criticisms and doubts expressed by the parents of his patients.
Earlier today I caught a snippet of an announcement indicating that the parents have fired Dr. Mechtler and his associate, Dr. Jennifer McVige, both of Dent Neurologic Institute in Amherst, New York.
Hooray!!! Score one for the parents!
As you will know if you have been reading my articles about The LeRoy Twelve, I have made no bones about my belief that Conversion Disorder or “Mass Hysteria” is at least at times used as a stop-gap diagnosis when an ICD-9 code is needed and there is no other known etiology for the presenting symptoms. It is understandable that at times, laboratory analysis is lacking, and the attending physician or psychologist may need additional information. However, it is imperative that all possible medical and physiological factors (including infectious agents and toxic exposures) should be investigated and ruled out. In the case of The LeRoy Twelve, the parents report this has not been done.
In Dr. Mechtler’s case, it appears there may be another reason why “Conversion Disorder” was preferred over the more likely diagnoses of vaccine-injury or PANDAS. Actually, there are at least 116,725 reasons why Dr. Mechtler might be so quick to rule out vaccines and PANDAS. $116,725 is the amount of money Dr. Mechtler received in speaking fees (ahem… bribes?) from GlaxoSmithKline and Merck Pharmaceuticals. And that was just for the year 2009.
Merck is the maker of Gardasil. Merck also produces MMR, Varicella, HiB, Flu, Menigoccocal, Pneumococcal, Rotavirus, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A, and Shingles Vaccines. Glaxo-Smith-Kline makes (and makes a lot of money from) DTaP, Hepatitis B, Flu, Hepatitis A, and Rotavirus vaccines.
As today’s earlier post here on VaxTruth explains, PANDAS does not rule out vaccine-injury. If anything, the diagnosis of PANDAS points directly to vaccine-injury. Dr. Mechtler would certainly know this if he has been keeping up with the latest research on sudden onset of neurological disorders in children and adolescents.
Shame on you, Dr. Mechtler.
And CONGRATULATIONS to the parents of The LeRoy Twelve for being proactive in pursuing what you know in your gut is the best course of medical treatment for your children. If more parents follow your lead, we may well see a huge decrease in the number of vaccine-injured children in this country. Your decision to act in your children’s best interest and your refusal to follow blindly what Dr. Mechtler tells you, simply because he is “the expert” deserves the highest recognition and respect.
